I completed my B COM (RAU) during 1993, my LLB (RAU) during 1995 and my LLM (RAU) during 1996. I did my articles at a small Johannesburg firm, completed them in May of 1998 and was simultaneously admitted as an attorney. On the 28th of May 1998, I left the firm I had done my articles at and started my own firm being A.I.José Attorneys. In April of 1999, I was granted the right of Appearance in the High Court. In March of 2003, I joined forces with Rudi van Niekerk and formed José & Van Niekerk Incorporated. On the 1st of June 2011, Rudi van Niekerk and I decided to go our separate ways and I formed Alan José Incorporated as the firm is today. Effectively I have now been running my own law firm for 25 years. During 2005 I completed a fully accredited Mediation Course and have been dedicated to family mediations ever since. I was on the South African Association of Mediators (SAAM) executive board for a few years before stepping down to spend more time doing pro bono mediations. My fields of preference are Family Law (and all that entails), Mediations, Insolvency Law, Contract drafting and Corporate Law. For me, as a family man, combining professionalism with a personal/human approach is crucial. I am a member of the Gauteng Family Law Forum, which was established in 2016. I am also a trained Collaborate Law attorney.
